Work to be done at Camp Lau-Ren this spring
Outlined below are several jobs that we need volunteers to tackle. Renfrew Presbytery churches are encouraged to
form work parties to tackle one or more of the jobs outlined below. Please either contact Renton Patterson at
613-735-5069 or at publiced@renc.igs.net or be prepared to respond when your church is
asked for some help.
Smyth Washroom
One toilet has been replaced. A toilet on the other side of the washroom also needs to be replaced.
Camper washroom
The urinal in the boys’ west washroom needs to be re-located.
Camper Washrooms
Counter tops and an extra sink are being installed
in both sides of both camper washrooms.
This job has been taken in hand by Bert Drynan and Jim Sharp of
Sports Box
Bert Drynan and Jim Sharp have built
a new sports box.
New Washrooms
Two
new washrooms are to be added to the Infirmary, one for the Health Care
Provider and Infirmary patients, and one for the Counsellors. Some materials have already been
ordered. The washrooms will be located
in the space outside the computer room, complete with toilet, shower, and
basin. One door needs to be blocked off
and another door installed in place of a window. Another doorway needs to be cut from the
infirmary bedroom. It is recommended
that the old windows also be replaced with modern plastic ones.
Since the slope from the toilet
location may not be enough before the pipe enters the septic tank, we may need
to go to SaniFlush units which don’t require a slope, but which cost about
$1,000. To be
determined.
This
job could be divided into two separate ones – plumbing, and carpentry.
Motel repair
One portion of the back support beam
of the Motel is rotted away and needs replacing. This is a fussy job that needs to be
done. Removal of leaves from this area
will eliminate any future rot.
Fellowes Hollow repair
A main beam by the Fellowes Hollow
single door is rotted away and needs to be replaced. This is another fussy job. The installation of a rain gutter above the
door and landing will lengthen the life of any new beams and landing. Removal of excess trees will also help by
allowing sunshine to dry up moisture.
Large motorboat
The wood on the outside of the
transom of the large boat needs to be replaced.
Marine plywood has been donated for this job.
Solar Collectors
The solar hot water collectors on
the roof of the Dining Hall need to be repaired and two more units
installed. Now that the large cedar tree
has been removed from behind the Dining Hall, the roof will get a lot more sun
and the collectors should yield a good deal of hot water.
Lifeguard Chair
The lifeguard chair needs a support
for a large umbrella.
Cooler
The walk-in cooler needs its
shelving and floor painted.
Dining Hall doors
These doors need to be modified to
agree with fire code to swing open on exit.
Path to Beach
This path has been badly eroded and has become
a walking hazard. It is suggested that
we put some logs or 6x6s across the path to make several steps and hold back
the erosion.
Clear brush
Brush behind the Dining Hall and Forrest Motel
is a fire hazard and must be removed.
Suggest it be burned at the fire pit before the bush dries up in the
spring.
Miscellaneous
There is always need for some
painting, but warm weather is required. There
are also many minor repairs required to doors and windows and screens. Stained ceiling tiles in Smyth washroom and
Infirmary should be replaced and plastic installed in the attic to prevent
critter dropping from staining the tiles in future. Some screen doors can be made to replace
ill-fitting ones.
West Outhouse
Off season rentals require a second outhouse to
be located in the west end. It may be
possible to move an existing, unused one.
Lute Deck
The outside deck / patio of Lute
Cabin, facing the river, needs to be re-built.
